That's pretty appalling. It's so out there that my rage soon became a kind of cynical amusement. Because:

1. If this is the worst they can come up with, the biggest stick they can find to beat her with, then one can dare to hope that her confirmation hearings won't be too ugly or protracted. (Yeah, I know about the speech in 2002, but I think the Administration handled that well enough that it won't actually harm her much. Although the conservative blogosphere will go on bleating about racism for months or years. Yadda yadda yadda.)

2. This is still more evidence of the flailing desperation of the Right in general, who are clearly having one hell of a time adjusting to being out of power. (Remember the smug talk of a "permanent majority" just a few years ago? Hee.) Every time a quote like this surfaces they make themselves more ridiculous and delay the day when they might begin to rebuild and make a credible bid to be taken seriously. Therefore I applaud Liddy for harming their cause. Long may they continue to talk like assholes!
